Three Men and a Baby Review: A Funny, Heartwarming ’80s Favourite That Still Works

Warning: This Three Men and a Baby review contains spoilers.

The Three Men and a Baby review practically writes itself because this film lands so comfortably in that rare space where a simple premise turns into consistently effective comedy. It follows three bachelor roommates suddenly tasked with caring for a baby, and the clash between their chaotic lifestyles and unexpected responsibility drives most of the humour.

The film’s greatest strength is its cast. Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg, and Ted Danson work brilliantly together, with an easy chemistry that makes even the smaller moments feel natural and funny. Each of them brings a distinct personality to the group dynamic, and the film leans into that contrast very well.

It’s also very funny in a way that still holds up. The humour isn’t overly complicated; it comes from timing, awkward situations, and the trio constantly being out of their depth. One of the standout moments for me is when they’ve just bathed Mary, and she unexpectedly farts on the red blanket — a simple gag, but delivered so perfectly it becomes one of those scenes that sticks with you, and it makes me laugh every time.

The film’s sequel, Three Men and a Little Lady, continues the story and still benefits from the same cast chemistry, even if it leans a bit more into sentimentality.

The soundtrack is another highlight. “Bad Boys” by Gloria Estefan adds a playful energy that fits the tone of the film, while “Daddy’s Girl” by Peter Cetera brings a softer emotional layer that balances the comedy.

That said, not everything lands perfectly. The inclusion of the drug-related subplot in the second half feels unnecessary and slightly out of step with the rest of the film’s light, comedic tone. It doesn’t ruin the movie, but it does feel like an odd detour that could have been trimmed without losing anything important.

Overall, it’s a warm, genuinely funny film with strong performances and memorable moments, even if a couple of tonal choices don’t quite fit.
