Warning: This Witches (2020) review contains spoilers. My review of The Witches (2020) may sound harsh, but as someone who absolutely loves the 1990 adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic story, I found the 2020 remake to be a major disappointment. Perhaps the biggest problem is that the remake constantly reminds you just how good the original was. Directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Anne Hathaway as the Grand High Witch and Octavia Spencer as Grandma, the filmREAD FULL REVIEW…

Warning: This Speak No Evil review contains spoilers. My Speak No Evil review may divide opinion, but I firmly believe the 2022 Danish original is far superior to its recent remake. While the remake isn’t terrible, it completely misses what made the original so disturbing. It softens the edges, provides a more audience-friendly experience, and ultimately removes much of the horror that lingered in my mind long after the credits rolled. At its heart, Speak No EvilREAD FULL REVIEW…

Warning: This Top Gun: Maverick review contains spoilers. My Top Gun: Maverick review may upset a few fans of the original, but I have to say it: I enjoyed Top Gun: Maverick far more than the 1986 classic. While the first film undoubtedly has its place in cinema history, this sequel delivers more excitement, more emotion, better action sequences, and a far stronger story. Set more than thirty years after the events of the original film, PeteREAD FULL REVIEW…

Warning: This Sense and Sensibility review contains spoilers. My Sense and Sensibility review comes from someone who has watched the film more than once and enjoyed it every single time. While it’s certainly a romance, it’s also a story about family, heartbreak, personal growth, and learning the difference between what we think we want and what we actually need. Based on Jane Austen’s classic novel, Sense and Sensibility follows sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood after their father’sREAD FULL REVIEW…

Warning: This Slanted review contains spoilers. My Slanted review begins with this: beneath its body horror exterior lies one of the most thought-provoking social commentaries I’ve seen in recent years. While the film contains some genuinely unsettling moments, its real strength comes from the questions it asks about identity, beauty standards, and the pressure to fit in. The story follows Joan Huang, a Chinese-American high school student who feels increasingly isolated from her predominantly white classmates. LongingREAD FULL REVIEW…

Warning: This Billy the Kid and the Green Baize Vampire review contains spoilers. My review of Billy the Kid and the Green Baize Vampire begins with a confession: I have only watched this film once. My husband, on the other hand, absolutely loves it and has watched it many times over the years. In fact, it comfortably sits in his personal top ten films of all time. After finally sitting down to watch it myself, I canREAD FULL REVIEW…

three men and a baby review

Warning: This Three Men and a Baby review contains spoilers. The Three Men and a Baby review practically writes itself because this film lands so comfortably in that rare space where a simple premise turns into consistently effective comedy. It follows three bachelor roommates suddenly tasked with caring for a baby, and the clash between their chaotic lifestyles and unexpected responsibility drives most of the humour. The film’s greatest strength is its cast. Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg,READ FULL REVIEW…

Warning: This Everybody Loves Sunshine review contains spoilers. My review of Everybody Loves Sunshine begins with a simple observation: this is not an easy film to watch. Released in 1999 and also known as B.U.S.T.E.D., the movie throws viewers headfirst into a violent world of gang culture, revenge, loyalty, and redemption. Directed by Andrew Goth, who also stars in the film, it features memorable performances from Goldie, David Bowie, and a talented supporting cast. From the openingREAD FULL REVIEW…

Warning: This Fuze review contains spoilers. I recently watched the 2024 movie Fuze, the British thriller starring Theo James and Sam Worthington, and while I was thoroughly engaged during the first half of the film, I ultimately came away feeling a little disappointed by where the story ended up. The premise is certainly intriguing. After an unexploded World War II bomb is discovered in London, a massive evacuation operation begins. Amid the chaos, a criminal gang seesREAD FULL REVIEW…

The Holy Mountain Review – 1973 movie. I’ve watched thousands of films over the years, but very few have left me as bewildered, fascinated, and challenged as The Holy Mountain. Released in 1973 and directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky, this cult classic is one of the strangest films ever committed to celluloid. It’s not a movie that simply tells a story; it’s an experience that assaults the senses, questions reality, and leaves you wondering what on earth you’veREAD FULL REVIEW…
